The University of Sousse (Arabic: ????? ?????) is a public university located in Sousse, Tunisia. It was ranked 49th in the 2016 regional ranking of Arab universities by U.S. News & World Report. History Established by Law No. 86-80 on August 9, 1986, under the name University of Monastir, the institution was renamed University of the Center by Decree No. 91-1999 on December 31, 1991. It was tasked with providing scientific and pedagogical oversight for institutions in the governorates of Sousse, Monastir, Kairouan, and Mahdia. The university experienced rapid growth: from 45,000 students in the 2001–2002 academic year, enrollment rose to nearly 60,000 in 2003–2004, spread across thirty institutions. On the occasion of Knowledge Day, July 16, 2004, President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali announced the creation of new universities in Monastir, Kairouan, and Gafsa. Following this decision, the University of the Center was divided into three separate institutions, and the University of Sousse was officially established by Decree No. 2004-2115 on September 2, 2004.

Established in January 2012, the LLL (Laboratoire Ligérien de Linguistique) specializes in the collection and analysis of oral corpora and audio recordings, in collaboration with research laboratories and institutions both in France and internationally. Its research spans all areas of linguistics, including phonology and phonetics, morphology, lexicology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics, and discourse analysis. The lab adopts both synchronic and diachronic perspectives, with a strong focus on applications in language teaching (didactics) and natural language processing (NLP).

The Centre for Linguistic Research on East Asia is a Joint Research Unit (UMR) affiliated with the CNRS, EHESS, and INALCO. As such, it falls under Section 34 (Language Sciences) of the CNRS Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences (INSHS). It is also an integral part of both the EHESS Cultural Areas Division and the research teams affiliated with the INALCO Doctoral School.
